- PROJECT SPAN 2025

Overview
COSA's Survivorship Fellowship program was established in 2020 to address strategic priorities while mentoring and supporting the development of promising early career researchers. Fellows receive mentorship, guidance and support from the Survivorship Executive Committee comprised of internationally renowned senior clinicians and researchers in cancer survivorship.
Details on this project
The Survivorship Policy and Implementation Working Group is calling for expressions of interest from early career researchers to become a COSA Survivorship Fellow to lead the project, Mapping Survivorship in Australian State and Territory Cancer Plans: A National Update.
The project will involve conducting a national review of the survivorship content in current Australian State and Territory cancer plans, and comparing findings with the Australian Cancer Plan (ACP) to assist the Survivorship Policy and Implementation Working Group in identifying opportunities for alignment, enhancement, and national consistency. The parameters of the project will be developed and confirmed by the chosen Fellow in consultation with their mentoring team. Further background on the Fellowship is available here.
The successful Fellow will be mentored by Dr Carolyn Mazariego with additional mentorship provided by members of the COSA Survivorship Policy and Implementation Working Group and its ACP mapping project team.
The Fellow will join the Survivorship Policy and Implementation Working Group as a co-opted member for the duration of their Fellowship.
The time commitment for this project is 4-8 hours a week for approximately 12 months. Applicants are expected to confirm that their current manager/supervisor is supportive of them dedicating the required time to undertaking this Fellowship, before submitting an application. The role is voluntary in nature and will not receive financial reimbursement. If successful and not already a COSA member, the applicant would be expected to join COSA and become a member of the Survivorship Group.
Depending on final contribution, the successful applicant will:
- Act as the first author of a peer reviewed manuscript resulting from this work
- Receive a complimentary registration to present this work at the COSA ASM or National Cancer Survivorship Conference
- Be encouraged to present the work at other meetings and conferences
- Receive a certificate of acknowledgement.
Please provide your expression of interest to [email protected] by COB Friday 5 September 2025 (i) briefly outline your experience and why you are interested in this Fellowship project (200 words) and (ii) attach a brief cv (max 2 pages).
