- GROUP Survivorship
- PROJECT SPAN 2016
- DATE 01/01/2016
Overview
The COSA Survivorship Group undertook a project to develop a position statement for COSA and its members and stakeholder groups defining the critical components of cancer survivorship care.
Objectives
The guiding questions for the project were:
- What are the critical components of survivorship care in Australia?
- What defines quality survivorship and how can it be survivor‐centred?
- How can we deliver a minimum standard of survivorship care in Australia?
A further objective was to develop an action plan to support staged implementation of Cancer Survivorship Care across a range of Australian healthcare settings. The issues around implementation of the Model in Australia will be examined as a part of the ongoing work of the COSA Survivorship Group.
The final Model of Survivorship Care was launched at the 2016 COSA ASM and can be found in the Resources tab.
In March 2021 Menzies School of Health Research and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) co-hosted an online Roundtable on Cancer Survivorship for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The purpose of the Roundtable was to discuss cancer survivorship and survivorship care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and identify priority areas to improve their survivorship care. A diverse range of participants attended, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by cancer were well represented to ensure their perspectives were central to the discussions.
