The Surgical Oncology Group represents the professional interests of surgical oncologists and provides a convenient contact point for other colleges and societies.  Members of the group have close links with the Surgical Oncology Section of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).

The aim of the Surgical Oncology Group is to facilitate dialogue and collaboration across disciplines, not only between surgical sub-specialties, but also with other areas of non-surgical medical practice. Members of the group are usually Fellows of the RACS, trained in general surgery or a sub-specialty and have a special interest and expertise in cancer management.

Membership of this group is restricted to surgical oncologists.
