Age friendly cancer care. What does it mean and how is it achieved?
The COSA Geriatric Oncology Group partnered with CNSA for the 2024 "Older persons with cancer collaborative webinar series", to present this insightful webinar on the application of the Age-friendly care framework in cancer treatment.
The session was facilitated by COSA Geriatric Oncology Group Executive member, Dr Polly Dufton, a Clinical Nurse Consultant and Nurse Researcher at Austin Health. Dr Dufton was joined by Professor Irene Blackberry and A/Professor Christopher Steer.
A/Professor Christopher Steer described age-friendly care using the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s 4Ms model (mobility, medication, mind and what matters). He discussed how age-friendly care has been implemented at a regional cancer centre, and how it can be applied more broadly in cancer care.
Professor Irene Blackberry shared her experiences from visiting North American cancer centres and the innovative ways they incorporate the 4Ms of age-friendly care.
The 60-minute webinar provided valuable insights into tailoring cancer treatment for older adults using age-friendly care principles, ensuring comprehensive and compassionate care that addresses the unique needs of this population.
