Medical and Scientific: Calls to ease rules on cannabis access

02 Apr 2021 - Medical and Scientific

Sufferers of chronic pain, cancer patients, people with epilepsy, and people with multiple sclerosis are all crying out for easier, subsidised access to medicinal cannabis products to help manage their conditions. But the existing system in Tasmania is regarded as the most restrictive in the country. Premier Peter Gutwein said recently Tasmania would join the other states in allowing GPs to prescribe approved cannabis products for patients – giving people hope. But there is concern at the lack of any accompanying detail about how the rest of the system would be improved, and the shortage of accessible products actually on pharmacy shelves.
