Occupational and Environmental: Asbestos disease funding slashed

25 Mar 2021 - Environment

The head of a community group that helps people with asbestos-related diseases says he has been blindsided after funding was slashed by tens of thousands of dollars. Asbestos Diseases Society of South Australia (ADSSA) president Peter Photakis said one of its major sponsors, Return to Work SA, “dropped a bombshell” by reducing its funding commitment by more than half. The ADSSA received $45,000 a year for the past two financial years from Return to Work SA – but this sponsorship will be cut to $20,000 in 2021-22 and then down to $10,000 for the following financial year.
