Nutrition, physical activity and obesity: Sugar alert for youths

08 Feb 2021 - Obesity

Teenagers and young men are the targets of a new in-your-face advertising campaign designed to shock them about the realities of sugary drinks and expose how hooked they can become. The national Full of Crap campaign being launched on social media by Rethink Sugary Drink, a coalition of 19 public health bodies, aims to show young men how they can be influenced by beverage company marketing, to the detriment of their health. Craig Sinclair, head of prevention at Cancer Council Victoria, one of the organisations in the coalition, said that one in six teenage boys consumed more than 5kg of sugar a year through drinks so it was important to educate young people on the realities of advertising.
