Medical and Scientific: Cancer treatment hope

08 Feb 2021 - Medical and Scientific

A breast cancer drug is being investigated for its potential to treat prostate cancer, in one of four new research projects funded by The Hospital Research Foundation Group. University of Adelaide research fellow Maggie Centenera will help guide treatment decisions for men whose prostate cancer has become resistant to existing therapies. “When prostate cancer is at a stage where it becomes resistant to treatment, sadly it has no cure. We need new, more effective drugs to improve patient survival,” she said. The drug, Ribociclib, is more commonly used to treat breast cancer but has also been shown to have promise in other cancers.
