In the last 18 months the Regional and Rural Group has been working on 2 major activities: the COSA Teleoncology Guidelines and development of the Australasian Tele-trial Model.

The COSA Clinical Practice Guidelines for Teleoncology were developed by a working group in consultation with COSA members.  The guidelines were launched in 2015 at the COSA ASM in Hobart and have been endorsed by COSA Affiliated Organisations - CNSA, FRO and MOGA.

The Australasian Tele-trial Model national implementation guide has been developed by the COSA Regional and Rural Group in consultation with clinical trial sponsors, clinicians, health administrators and regulatory bodies. The model uses teleoncology to enable clinicians from larger centres (primary sites) to enrol, consent and treat patients on clinical trials at regional and rural centres (satellite sites), thereby providing patients with access to clinical trials closer to home. The next step will be to further develop the core principles of the model, particularly in regards to research governance, through the selection of suitable trials from cancer trials groups and industry.
