The Epidemiology Group of COSA is a group composed of epidemiologists, researchers, clinicians and clinical support staff, policy makers and service delivery staff who have an interest in the population impact of cancer in the community. The group provides a national forum in which COSA members can exchange views and be briefed on advances in methodology and findings from studies in cancer epidemiology.
It seeks to further the professional development of those already working in the field and to encourage young scientists to enter a discipline which is currently under-represented in Australia.
The group has interests in:
- Burden of disease – by cancer, population group and trends
- Risk factors
- Assessing patterns of treatment
- Cancer screening issues
- Cancer information collections – population and clinical registries
- Cancer indicators
- Cancer epidemiology methods and approaches
The group has traditionally been closely linked with the Australasian Association of Cancer Registries (AACR). This organisation co-locates its epidemiology day with that of the COSA Epidemiology Group. A representative of the AACR co-organises the Epidemiology Program for the COSA ASM.
The group welcomes suggestions for program development, co-sponsored activities, joint papers and presentations.
Chair: A/Prof Michael Coory
Chair AACR: Professor Graham Giles
