COSA and Cooperative Groups
Enabling Project
In 2005, COSA and the Cancer
Cooperative Trials Groups (CCTGs) successfully applied for an NHMRC
Enabling Grant. We were awarded $1.84 million over five years. This funding ended in June 2010.
In those five years considerable achievements have
been made to improve and standardise clinical trials across Australia. The three most significant achievements were
the:
- formation and
continuation of the Executive Officers’ network;
- umbrella clinical trials insurance
scheme;
- educational programs for clinical trial
staff.
While NHMRC funding has not continued, COSA and the cooperative groups have
been actively exploring other means of contributing to the independent trials
program in Australia. Work continues to
submit submissions to government, develop and maintain quality assurance
through training, develop protocols for clinical trials and establish and build
a consumer network for cooperative trials groups.
