Cancer Biology

The Cancer Biology (formerly Cancer Research) group, one of the first groups established within COSA, was originally envisaged as bridging the gap between basic, laboratory-based cancer research and applied research in a clinical setting.

The group has been exploring new means to fulfil this role, specifically by facilitating COSA collaboration with relevant research-based societies as well as with the researchers themselves. One specific area that we have focussed on has been the provision of biospecimens from clinical trials operated by the Cooperative Trials Groups (CCTGs). This is a specific project that provides a tangible and practical bridge between clinical medicine and basic biological research. A report on biobanking from clinical trials is available for members in the publications area of the website.
