Call for Nominations


The Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) has joined again with Novartis Oncology to make available this special award recognising outstanding Australian contributions to cancer research and control.

The Cancer Achievement Award formally recognises the contributions made by scientists, clinicians and other health care professionals to the scientific study of cancer in Australia.

Since 1999 this Award has been presented to ten leaders in the field of Australian Oncology. The 2008 Award was presented to Professor Ian Olver, Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Council of Australia and the 2009 Award was presented to Professor Jim Bishop AO, Australian Chief Medical Officer. Most recently the Award was presented to Professor John Simes, Director of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Clinical Trials Centre based at the University of Sydney.

The successful applicant will be presented with cash prize, and an award, at the MOGA Annual Scientific Meeting in Adelaide on Friday 12th August 2011 at which he/she will deliver a formal address on their area of professional interest.

Nominations may be made by any individual. Each nomination should include:

♦ Biographical outline of the nominee (Australian resident)
♦ A list of the nominee’s major relevant publications,
♦ An explanation of the nominee’s work in the area of cancer control or research,
♦ An evaluation of the accomplishments of the nominee, and additionally
♦ Letters of reference from two individuals from outside the nominees’ institution containing a critical appraisal of the nominee’s work.

Closing date for applications: Friday 6 May 2011
