Cancer Research

The Cancer Research Group, one of the first groups established within COSA, was originally envisaged as bridging the gap between basic, laboratory-based cancer research and applied research in a clinical setting.

The group is exploring new means to fill this role, specifically by facilitating COSA collaboration with relevant research-based societies and conferences. A goal is to ensure that barriers which limit the provision of optimal and improved cancer care are visible to the research community. Conversely, there is the opportunity to ensure appropriate application of new knowledge concerning cancer biology, particularly that which is developed at the molecular level.

The term ‘cancer research’ is now recognised to be applicable to a broad range of activity extending from epidemiology to clinical trials, and including, for example, health services research. The Cancer Research Group operates to accommodate all such activity, particularly within the Annual Scientific Meetings of COSA.
