The Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) functions as the peak nursing group for cancer nurses in Australia and is a member group of COSA. Founded in 1998, the CNSA is committed to achieving and promoting excellence in cancer care through the professional contribution of nurses. New members are welcome.
CNSA members receive a range of benefits, including a bi-monthly newsletter and free subscription to the Australian Journal of Cancer Nursing, in addition to other COSA benefits. Local CNSA activity is organised through regional groups that hold regular meetings and facilitate educational opportunities. Special interest groups, such as the radiation oncology nursing group, facilitate activity in specific areas of cancer nursing. The society coordinates an active grants and awards program to support nursing educational opportunities and research. The society is a member body of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care.
The CNSA hosts a mid-year Winter Congress annually, with the focus on oncology nursing and relevant specific themes. Also offered as a regular feature of the Winter Congress are a range of pre-conference workshop opportunities, that have covered various subjects in the past, such as palliative care, communication skills, writing for publication and sexuality issues, to name a few.
The CNSA participates in the COSA Annual Scientific Meeting each year. This is a uniquely multidisciplinary meeting, offering conference sessions on a wide range of oncology and related themes, for medical, nursing and allied health professionals.
CNSA structure
CNSA is a membership-based organisation that has been developed to support and serve cancer nurses in Australia. A National Executive Committee that comprises elected representatives from all states and territories, and a nationally elected Chairperson, govern CNSA.
Membership
Registered nurses and enrolled nurses maintaining an interest in cancer care and control are eligible for ordinary membership of CNSA. All financial members are eligible to hold office and vote.
All CNSA members automatically receive associate membership of COSA. Depending on your qualification, you can opt for either Associate or Ordinary Membership of COSA.
