HOTTAH Grant
A joint initiative between Roche and COSA.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 
As part of its ongoing support of the haematology and oncology community in Australia, Roche Products and COSA are delighted to announce that the Haematology and Oncology Targeted Therapies Allied Health (HOTTAH) grant of $25,000AUD will be available in the first quarter of 2008.

Haematology and Oncology Targeted Therapies Allied Health (HOTTAH) grant
This award is open to Nurses and Allied Health Professionals and is intended to assist in the conduct of research or project initiatives that will be of benefit to the clinical oncology or haematology community within Australia. 

In addition to the $25,000 grant, support in-kind may also be available from Roche as required and agreed.

Eligibility

  • The award is open to Nurses and Allied Health Professionals who are members of COSA.
  • The awards will be offered to fund projects to be undertaken over a one-year period. Research or project outcomes should be available at the end of this one-year period.
  • The research topic may be in any aspect of medical oncology or malignant haematology.  Non-research projects must be of wide ranging benefit to the oncology or haematology community of Australia.
  • Applicants must be Australian permanent residents.
  • The research or projects must be conducted within Australia.

Applications

  • The closing date for applications is 04 April 2008.
  • All applicants must submit 
    • the HOTTAH Grant application form (Word doc, 221KB), along with the requested attachments specified on the form. 
    • a copy of the applicant’s CV, up to 6 pages in length.
    • a letter of support from the applicant’s Department Head or Institutional Head, specifying the mentoring, support and facilities that will be available from the Institution.
  • All applications will be assessed by a panel of experts including representatives of COSA and Roche.
  • The successful candidates will be notified within six weeks of the closing date.

Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology travel grant
APJCO has generously contributed AU$5,000 for the best abstract submitted by an author in the Asia Pacific Region for the COSA Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) . The winning paper must be submitted in full to APJCO and subject to editorial review, will be published.  The prize will be awarded according to a competitive, independent process and is open across all disciplines.

COSA travel grants
COSA is pleased to announce the opportunity for financial members to submit an application for a 2008 travel grant to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting in Sydney from Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 November.

Each travel grant will be up to the value of $1,000 and is to be used for expenses incurred in attending the Annual Scientific Meeting.

Eligibility

  • COSA financial member for a period of 12 months
  • Must have an abstract accepted for presentation at the meeting. This can be either an oral or poster presentation 
  • Submit completed COSA Travel Grant Application Form by Friday 12 September 2008.

Recipients of a COSA travel grant in the last 2 years will not be eligible

Applications will be assessed by a selection committee nominated by the COSA Executive and successful applicants will be notified in September.

The Australian Lung Foundation - 2008 Award for Research into the Early Detection of Lung Cancer
Aim: This grant is aimed to facilitate research into the early detection of lung cancer by suitably qualifed medical , scientific, nursing or allied health practitioners. The research can relate to any aspect of the early detection of lung cancer, including screening technologies. Preference will be given to projects with a strong translational focus.

Conditions
The grant is valued at up to $105,000 and it is envisaged that this amount would be used as:

  • a full PhD Scholarship or
  • as two or three PhD top up Scholarships or 
  • as a short term project grant for 12 months

The closing date for applications is 5.00pm Friday 27 June 2008.

PhD Scholarship in Cancer Health Services and Health Economics
EM-Cap is a five year NHMRC funded program bringing together a team of experts within the fields of  medicine, epidemiology, health services research and economics. The program aims to: explore the way in which cancer care is delivered in Australia (specifically chemotherapy); determine the factors influencing the cost of  cancer care delivery and; develop tools to support evidence-based resource allocation decisions. Exciting opportunities exist for up to two PhD candidates within a number of fields including:

  • Medical Oncology
  • Pharmacoepidemiology
  • Health Economics/Health Services Research
